Biebuyck and Wickstrom Present Technical Paper at 2013 Air & Waste Management Association Annual Conference

Jonathan Wickstrom, Environmental Scientist (l) and Gavin Biebuyck, Principal, Air Quality Practice (r) attend the AWMA Annual Conference

Liberty Environmental’s Gavin Biebuyck and Jonathan Wickstrom presented a technical paper at the Air & Waste Management Association (AWMA) 106th Annual Conference in Chicago on June 27, 2013. The presentation was focused on a human health inhalation risk assessment for air toxic compounds measured in ambient air samples in Berks County, Pennsylvania from 2007-2012. During this time, Liberty Environmental operated an air quality monitoring station at Kutztown University as part of a partnership between the university, the County of Berks, and the PA DEP. The technical paper summarized the air toxic metals and organic compound monitoring data collected in Kutztown and in Reading (at a second air toxics monitoring site operated by the PA DEP) and compared the cancer and non-cancer risks associated with air toxics in Berks County with risks at other Pennsylvania locations where similar air toxic monitoring data has been collected. It concluded that air toxic risks in Berks County are generally within U.S. EPA guidelines and do not pose a human health concern.
